Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When should I use the Quick-Fit and when should I use the Tank Removal Style dual flush kit?
A. If your toilet falls into the type that will accept our Quick-Fit and it has had a new flapper valve installed within the last 5 or 6 years then by all means you should use the Quick-Fit. It will be the easiest transformation ever. However if your toilet is older and it will need to be rebuilt in a few years anyway, then it makes sense to buy our One2flush or Better Flush and do the job right the first time. An important thing to keep in mind when considering which way to go is that chlorine deteriorates plastic. And even after a few years with toilet bowl cleaners or heavy chlorination from a water company, your flush valve may be weakened to where it should be replaced.
Q. What is a dual flush toilet?
A dual flush toilet helps to conserve water by using half (or less) the flush to rinse liquid and light waste from the toilet bowl. They have been around for 20 or 30 years in Europe, Japan and Australia. They have been making their way into the U.S. over the past few years. However, a good dual flush toilet can be an expensive investment, costing hundreds of dollars and often creating a remodeling issue. Additionally, when you replace you existing toilet with a new one, guess where the old one goes... to a landfill. That is why the dual flush conversion kit has become so popular. It allows you to save water (1,000's of gallons per year) by installing a relatively inexpensive kit into your existing toilet. So you get the best of both worlds.
Q. Are the Dual Flush Kits easy to install?
Yes, After watching the video's you should feel comfortable with the project. It is easily a one-person job, but having another person handy within shouting distance could be helpful for some people when removing the tank for installation when installing those models. The average homeowner, with just a few tools, can install our Dual Flush Kits in about 30 minutes. Or 5 minutes with our Quick-Fit drop in model. If your toilet tank has not been removed in the past 10 years or so, you should replace the tank seal just because of it's age as well as the hold-down bolts when installing our dual flush valve. Those items are available in our Bonus Packs as well as being sold separately.
Q. How do I know if I want the button or handle model?
A. With our Quick-fit you can decide after you buy it and see which one works best with your family. It is all personal preference. But, for some people it is easier to remember that you are dealing with a dual flush toilet when you have the button. Our new button design is easier to operate than any we have seen. The handle is familiar to everyone and tends to be slightly more popular than the button. The button is prevelant in other countries. So the choice is yours.
Q. I've heard that drop-in dual flush converters have a tendency to leak. Does your Quick-Fit leak?
A. The ones that have been on the market for the last several years do. That's because they depend on a flexible rubber funnel for a seal at the old flapper valve base. And if the old base has had chlorine in the water, the plastic may have deteriorated making a rough surface that is hard to seal with a smooth flexible rubber funnel.this style has a tendency to leak. Usually no one checks to see if there is a leak at the connection point because it is under water and would not normally be noticed unless you did a food color test in the tank to determine if water was coming through to the bowl. Both our Quick-fit or out Tank Removal Models provide a water tight positive seal that, when installed properly, will not leak. All of our products have been labratory leak tested and performance tested to 75,000 flushes.
Q. Will Your Dual Flush Kits fit my toilet?
A. Each model has a chart on that page that indicates whether it will work on your style toilet. There are many hundreds of models of toilets out there but most of them take the same components. If you aren't sure after looking at our charts, send us an email with a picture of the inside of your toilet attached and we will help you to determine which one will work best for you.
Q. Will I need to change my fill valve?
Q. How low can my toilet tank be?
A. With all of our kits, Your toilet tank can be as low as 8 1/2", measuring from the bottom of the tank to the inside bottom of the tank lid. This is for either one piece or two piece toilets.
